Chamber of Commerce and other business interests agree, and filed legal briefs backing Preston. Businesses typically prefer arbitration, with the conservative Pacific Legal Foundation, based in Sacramento, Calif., arguing that arbitration is "cheaper and more efficient" than what critics fear would be endless legal reviews. The Screen Actors Guild and other groups that represent performers respond that the state law establishing an initial contract review by the California Labor Commissioner makes sense for the entertainment industry. "It is critical to protecting vulnerable individuals in an environment where aspirants will do almost anything to `make it big,'" the Screen Actors Guild declared in a legal brief. In Ferrer's case, Preston helped set up a meeting with several television executives and producers.

Preparing for digital switch
I know about television stations switching to digital in 2009. Should I wait until then to connect a digital converter box to my TV? A: In February 2009, TV broadcasts will go completely digital. SEVERE WEATHER TEAM 9 BLOG
Some may refer to this brief warm-up as a January Thaw. It happens in the Northeast usually once a year, and usually during the month of January. Here's a more in-depth explanation: The January thaw is an observed but unexplained temperature rise in mid-winter found in mid-latitude North America. Sinusoidal estimates of expected temperatures, for northern locales, usually place the lowest temperatures around January 23 and the highest around July 24, and provide fairly accurate estimates of temperature expectations. CHP has tips for teens, parents
About a dozen teens and parents, some covering their eyes, watched the gruesome scene at Vacaville High School on Thursday night during a class designed to teach teens the consequences of unsafe driving. The vivid footage, part of "Red Asphalt V," was shot by CHP officers at accident scenes and is used in the CHP "Start Smart" classes to get their point across. "My personal mission is the safety of you guys," CHP Officer Marvin Williford said to the teens. "You don't have a button to push to restart the game. Dead is dead, and that is it." Start Smart classes are designed for teens who recently got their driver's licenses, or will soon, and for their parents. The course is free and covers common factors in teen crashes and how to avoid them. It also provides information about provisional driver's licenses.
