| Whitehorse couple running marathon to help fight MD
Running has always been a way to relieve stress for Michelle Beaulieu, but this year she is using her passion for the sport to make a difference in the lives of boys and young men suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (MD). Beaulieu will compete, along with her husband, in the 2008 Walt Disney World Annual Marathon on a team called Run For Our Sons, which is part of a non-profit organization named Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. Two of Beaulieus three children suffer from MD, which is a disease that afflicts male children, resulting in a decreased amount of muscle mass and progressive loss of muscle function. Im not worried about the technical aspect of the marathon, it is more of the camaraderie and the team and just why we are doing it and the significance of all that kind of stuff, Beaulieu said.
Bill on Migrants Splits a Town With Few
Other places are passing laws against illegals, so where will they go? To the places that welcome them," said Chamberlain, a dapper man who sells recreational vehicles. "I am not trying to spew hatred against anyone, but I will not cower just because someone calls me a bigot. We have got to send a clear message that people who break the law are not welcome here." Mayor James McCarron strongly opposes Chamberlain's bill. He calls illegal immigration a federal problem, and a majority of the council members appear to agree with him. In the January issue of the Taneytown Newsletter, McCarron called the resolution "an attempt to inflame and divide the city." "Taneytown is not a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, and it has no intention of ever becoming one," the mayor said in exasperation.
Bush Visits Saudi Arabia Amid Changing Alliance
Saleh al-Mani, dean of the college of law and political science at King Saud University, said the invasion and the way it was handled, led inevitably to the current crisis with Iran by removing Saddam Hussein and his Sunni bulwark against the regional ambitions of the Shiite leadership. "The invasion of Iraq has really disturbed the balance of power in the region," al-Mani said. "So we have now a problem with Iran having so much influence in the region and in Iraq." Many Saudis say they are baffled by U.S. policy toward Iran, but they are most worried about another military conflict on their doorstep. Al-Mani said the U.S. would be wise to let diplomacy and sanctions have their full effect, because Iranians appear to be getting fed up with hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his allies.
