Who's Blogging
Just when you think the NFL playoffs can't possibly be more boring or more predictable, a day like Sunday jumps up and happens. The defending Super Bowl champions lose at home -- to a team that has more wounded than an episode of M*A*S*H -- and the Dallas/Hollywood Cowboys go down to a team that was suppposed to be firing its coach after a 6-10 season right about now. The only problem with last Sunday is it might -- repeat might -- lead to two one-sided conference championship games this Sunday. Raise your hand if you really think the San Diego Chargers with a hobbled quarterback, a hobbled running back and a hobbled star tight end are going into Foxboro and beating the unbeaten New England Patriots. Raise the other hand if you think the gritty New York Giants with young Eli are walking into Green Bay, in what is supposed to be single-digit weather, and ending the made-for-TV movie that is the 2007 Packers, starring 57-year-old Brett Favre.

Media in China: all the news that fits the script
My envy quickly disappeared when we moved to a question-and-answer session. I half-jokingly asked Yu Wei, Sohu's managing editor, if she wanted to buy news from The Seattle Times. "I want to buy but I can't do it," she said. She then explained that all international news comes through Xinhua news agency. Xinhau is a national news service that is very much government-controlled. The conversation then turned to censorship and how Sohu deals with ideas and incidents the about which Chinese government disallows its people to read. Hidden by the glitz and freewheeling appearance of Sohu is a program that censors forbidden content. One of my tripmates asked if words such as "Taiwan" and "Tiananmen Square" got blocked. What about sex? he asked.
Images of dark matter distribution in a supercluster
We have covered advances in the understanding and observation of dark matter many time before, both in the Ars news section and Nobel Intent. At the recent meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Austin, Texas, researchers from the Universities of British Columbia and Nottingham presented compelling new observations of indirect evidence of dark matter. Their work is scheduled to be published in an upcoming edition of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The current mainstream thinking in the astrophysical community is that dark matter forms a sort of web that houses galaxies. Last week's edition of Science was a special issue devoted to this unseen cosmic web. It is believed that as the universe evolves, the gravitational attraction of dark matter causes galaxies to spin and collide, forming superclusters.
Ron Paul’s My Guy!
Things begin to decay and eventually crumble. Style guy continues to explain away the most flagrant mistakes and problems. People still buy it because he is their guy. However, when it starts to really get bad some shout violent "revolt". But others keeping a cool head shout "revolt of ideas". They overturn personality guy and refocus on core human issues. As opinion leaders to those who read your pieces you need to look at your responsibility. What are your values? How much forward thinking do you do? How will these candidates and issues bear out within the next few years? Yes, if you change your mind you may not be invited to certain barbeques anymore but you will have the satisfaction of endeavoring to do something valuable. This is a prize far greater than anything money can buy.
